E-Cigarette Burns Mother And Toddler

We are learning of a new case of an e-cigarette burn, something we are hearing about more and more these days. This time, Paige Kadella says she was in the backseat with her daughter Ashlynn as the family was heading out on a camping trip when something terrible happened.

“All of a sudden I hear the crackling noise, so I look down and my purse is on fire,” she said. Kadella claims the lithium battery that powered the device had exploded into flames.

Kadella suffered burns to her hands, but Ashlynn, who is only 18 months old, had chemical and fire burns to her left hand, arm, and ear. She is still undergoing skin graft surgeries to repair the damage.

“We will eventually find out who it was that wholesaled the product and the manufacturer of the battery,” said her attorney. “Everybody in the supply chain is accountable for this tragedy.”

At the Simpson Law Group, we know that there are many ways people get hurt using the products they buy every day. If you need a San Diego defective product attorney, you can call us today.

What Can Happen?

While you may think the things you use on a daily basis are completely safe, take a look at the government website that tracks all current recalls in the US. Are there any products that you or your family use on the list?

Each year, there are products across all industries recalled because they pose dangers to the public. Often, we hear about recalled foods or vehicles on the news, but there are other items we never hear about.

We find that faulty products usually have one of the following:

  • Design flaws that can affect entire lines of products. If a design flaw is not discovered in the testing phase of a product, that means that millions of units of the item could be sold before a problem is discovered.
  • Manufacturing flaws occur when something happens during the manufacturing process that alters a product from its original design and renders it dangerous for the consumer.
  • Labeling errors are particularly deadly because they can happen in many forms. This can include not warning the consumer of potential hazards or side effect. It can include not labeling all ingredients that are in a product. It can also include not having the correct dosage listed on medications.

We always suggest speaking with a qualified attorney who can help you determine the best path forward for your particular case.
