Driving Mistakes Cause Fatalities

Driving is a skill. It is a skill that takes time to perfect, but not everyone stays perfect forever. No matter what your age you can always make a mistake while driving. For example, you can accidentally run a stop sign that you see every day as you drive to and from work. Maybe you have been ticket free for years even decades, but one day you just happen to go a little too fast and you are caught. Every day someone is either getting a ticket, experiencing a car accident, or doing something else that is considered a driving mistake.

A not so common mistake, but a dangerous mistake, is when someone drives the wrong way down a road. Driving the wrong way down a multi-lane or single lane road is disastrous. It not only causes confusion, but it is hard for people who are driving the right way to discern the distance or how to get away from the car driving the wrong way. Typically these kinds of accidents result in a head-on collision. This was the result of a man who was driving from Maine and entered a highway the wrong way.

Wrong –Way Accidents

Driving the wrong way on the road accounts for nearly 355 deaths a year. That means about one person a day dies from someone driving the wrong way and causing a fatal collision. One late afternoon, a middle-aged driver was killed leaving another driver in critical condition. The middle-aged man was driving a Nissan the wrong way. He crossed all lanes on SR-163 before hitting a minivan which then slammed into the center divider. Both drivers had to be pulled out of the car. The 44-year old Nissan driver died on the scene. The minivan driver was unresponsive but is still alive

Thankfully only two cars were hit during this incident. It could have easily turned into a multi-car crash situation. If that were the case then the Nissan driver would be responsible for all the cars that were hit. Driving takes great awareness and alert behavior. There was no explanation as to why the middle-aged man drove onto the high way the wrong way, but we do know that it was life-changing for both drivers.
