When the Oskri Organics Corporation puts out a product, the last thing on management’s mind is that a customer will discover a major problem, but that is exactly what happened recently.
The company has said that a “customer randomly tested one of the products and found Listeria monocytogenes.”
How many of you have ever randomly tested the food products you buy?
If you are anything like us, the answer is never. Oskri Organics has recalled their tahini butter and sunflower butter due to possible contamination. There is a long shelf life for these products, so there is a concern that many people may not even know about the danger and will not even notice a recall. So far, nobody has reported an illness in connection with the products, but symptoms from Listeria exposure can take 70 days to develop.
At the Simpson Law Group, we know that this is just one of the hundreds of recalls that affect consumers each year. If you need a San Diego product liability attorney due to an injury, we are ready to help.
If you are a regular viewer of the news, then you likely see at least one or two notices of recalls a week, but the problem is more widespread than a few news stories. If you go over and look at the government recall site, you will see hundreds of products that could potentially cause injuries or illnesses to consumers.
Page after page, you will see products that have one or more of the three problems:
1. Faulty Designs – When a product get through all of the tests, it should be ready and safe for consumers. Sometimes though, a problem is not discovered until later, after the product is in the hands of consumers.
2. Manufacturing Issues – If a product is altered from its original design while in the manufacturing process (possible contamination or pieces missing), then it is likely going to become dangerous for consumers.
3. Labeling Problems – It is vital that a product label has all the information the consumer needs to be safe. This includes having all ingredients listed and having potential allergen warnings. For medications, dosages need to be correct. Products must have proper usage instructions and hazard labels.
Most product problems are not discovered by users testing them, as was the case above. When issues are discovered, companies must act quickly to ensure consumer safety.
These are not expected injuries and illnesses. If you or a loved one have been harmed due to a product used or consumed, you need to seek legal assistance. The Simpson Law Group is ready to investigate your case and work to secure the compensation you deserve. This can include:
