In a shocking incident last month, we learned that a man was bitten on his face and arm several times by a dog in North Park. Police say he was attacked by another man’s dog during an argument. The incident happened during a verbal argument between a 27-year-old man and a 50-year-old-man. The younger man threatened to release his dog on the older man, took off the dog’s collar, and let his dog attack.
The 50-year-old was taken to the hospital for his injuries and witnesses say that he was missing chunks of the flesh on his arm. The dog, a pit bull terrier, was taken to the SD Humane Society while the investigation is ongoing.
At the Simpson Law Group, we know that this sounds like an extreme dog attack case, but you may be surprised to learn how many dog bites cause injuries in the country each year. If you need a San Diego dog attack attorney, you can count on us to be by your side.

“Was the dog protecting its master? Was it responding as a weapon? Or did the dog feel that it was threatened?” asked SD Humane Society Chief Steve MacKinnon. Those are good questions, but this incident shows just how powerful dogs are. They can, and have, killed people.
In the US, there are around 4.5 million dog bites each year and the CDC says that nearly 1 in 5 people bitten by a dog requires medical attention. The most common injuries deal with a person’s soft tissue and are usually minor. However, there are many cases of extreme injuries that require surgery to repair. Sometimes, it is even necessary for a dog attack victim to undergo plastic surgery to restore functionality or appearance to a part of their body.
We know that not every dog bite or attack is the fault of the dog’s owner. However, there are times when their negligence allows attacks to happen, whether they intended it to happen or not. This can happen if:
