Southern California Woman And Toddler Injured By Exploding E-Cigarette

We have learned that a mother and her toddler were seriously injured after an e-cigarette exploded. Her family has filed a lawsuit against the store where the device was purchased. Paige Kadella, the woman who was injured, says she was using e-cigarettes to help her quit smoking. Unfortunately, she did not know about the many instances of the lithium-ion batteries used in the e-cigarettes exploding.

The incident happened in September of 2016 when Kadella and her little daughter were in the backseat of a vehicle.

“All of a sudden I hear a crackling noise, so I look down and my purse is on fire,” she said. Kadella was burned on her hands. Her daughter, Ashlynn, suffered from both fire burns and chemical burns to her left hand, arm, and ear when her car seat caught fire. The girl is still enduring skin grafts to repair the damage.

At the Simpson Law Group, we know that consumers face many dangers when it comes to faulty products on the market. When you need a San Diego product liability attorney, you can count on our knowledgeable and experienced team to be by your side.

What Can Happen?

We know that Kadella never expected that something she bought would end up causing her and her daughter harm. When products are faulty, they usually catch us completely off guard, causing injuries and illnesses we never expected to have to deal with.

The government tracks recalls across all industries and their website gives us a better understanding of just how widespread faulty products are. They usually occur because of one of three reasons:

1. They are not properly labeled. This can mean that something is missing from the ingredients list or the instructions for proper usage. Hazards and side effects may be left off. For medications, a missing dosage can seriously harm or kills someone.

2. Products may have a poor design that is not caught during inspections. The poor design could cause serious consumer harm immediately or may not be realized until years later.

3. Sometimes products experience a manufacturing error that alters them from their original design and renders them harmful for consumers in the same ways a design error does.

We expect safety when we buy something, but when products cause us harm, the companies and manufacturers responsible for the errors need to be held accountable for their actions.
